Frequently Asked Questions

  • You can contact Governance Standard UK directly via email or the website contact form. Initial conversations are exploratory and confidential, and there is no obligation to proceed. We use this stage to understand context, risk and need before advising on next steps.

  • At an early stage, only high‑level information is required. This may include:

    • the nature of the issue or concern

    • whether independence is required

    • any relevant time pressures or sensitivities

Detailed documentation is not requested until scope, roles and approach have been agreed.

  • This depends on capacity, risk and urgency. Where matters involve matters of active organisational risk, we prioritise early engagement where possible. Availability and timescales are always confirmed before work begins

  • All work begins with a clearly agreed scope. For investigations and reviews, this includes:

    • purpose and objectives

    • boundaries and exclusions

    • roles and responsibilities

    • reporting lines

    • deliverables and timescales

This protects fairness, independence and clarity for all parties.

  • Yes. Most engagements result in a structured written report. Reports are factual, evidence‑based and clearly set out findings, analysis and recommendations, tailored to the purpose of the work and the intended audience (e.g. board, panel, senior leadership).

  • This is agreed in advance. There are no assumptions about distribution, and confidentiality is respected. Governance Standard UK does not share findings beyond agreed recipients and operates within the terms of the Privacy Notice.

  • Yes. We regularly work alongside internal teams. Depending on the engagement, our role may be to:

    • lead an independent element of work

    • provide oversight or assurance

    • advise on process and decision‑making

    • complement existing internal expertise

Organisation point of contact, roles and boundaries are agreed clearly from the outset.

  • Fees are agreed in advance, based on scope, complexity and risk. We offer fixed‑fee projects, day‑rate consultancy and retainer arrangements, depending on the nature of the work. There are no unexpected costs without prior discussion.

  • Both. Some organisations engage us for a specific piece of work; others retain Governance Standard UK for ongoing governance, safeguarding or advisory support. We are clear about what is included in each arrangement.

  • Much of our work can be undertaken remotely, including meetings, interviews and training. Where in‑person engagement is appropriate or required, this is agreed in advance and taken into consideration in fee agreement.

  • We often work with organisations during periods of challenge, change or scrutiny. Our approach is designed to bring structure, calm judgement and defensible process when it matters most.
